There was no gift paper to unwrap, but as the keys to three vehicles were placed in the hands of their new owners, it looked a lot like Christmas morning.
Duluth Dodge donated one of the vehicles to Community Action Duluth, and private owners donated the other two. From there, Twin Ports Area Napa Auto Care Centers donated their parts and their time.
Crews put an estimated 40-50 hours into refurbishing the vehicles, to them in good shape to give away.
And the recipients couldn't be more appreciative. Valirick Pepper has been without a car for 3 years and said this is truly a gift that will keep on giving, "Even as simple as grocery shopping in the winter. being able to get everything we need without freezing the whole way, I mean it's everything."
And Stacey Meese is looking forward to more independence, "To go where I want and run my errands and I'm very busy with stops, always on the go on the East side, West side, uptown, downtown. I can do my thing on my own time."
Community Action Duluth said the program is all about helping families reach long-term prosperity. Brad Williams, President of the Twin Ports Napa Auto Care Centers participates because it marries two of his interests. Fixing cars, and helping others. Plus he said it's in his nature to spread a little Christmas cheer.
"I've never actually played a Santa Clause, but I look like the part so I might as well."
And as the proud new owners of the vehicles drove off the lot, they're sure to have a happy holiday, and a very happy new year.
This is the third year these organizations have given cars away and they plan to continue the tradition in the future.
