Many know Superior's Wisconsin Point for its unmonitored beaches and midnight parties. A group in Superior wants change the peninsula's reputation.

"It's a beautiful place when you through garbage you are misusing it," said Jeff Johnson, a Superior resident who walks his dog on the beach four times a week.

From fun size snacks, to flip flops. The beaches on Wisconsin Point are littered and used.

"I think a lot of the problem is people just coming out here to party," Johnson.

"Its terrible it's a beautiful lake I fish it al the time it's a shame," Kiri Jahn, student who studies E-Coli on the beach.

Dubbed party point by some, the peninsula is also home to miles of beach, wildlife, and a native american burial ground. Right now, its managed by the City of Superior, but with graffiti and some car theft complaints its become too much to handle. Thursday representatives from the city, county and state met to brainstorm solutions. The group was formed after they received $40,000 from the state DNR and the federal government.

"State intervention in my opinion is what we are going to need to manage the resource properly," said Superior City Councilor Tom Bridge, group member and instrumental leader in the effort to clean up Wisconsin Point.

A few ideas suggested by the group include 24-hour security guards or turning the point into a state park. They also want to repair Wisconsin Point Road. But these ideas are all preliminary.

The planning process will happen over the next year and a half. The next public meeting on the matter will be August 29th at 6 p.m. at the Superior Public Library.
