Grand Rapids advance to the Class AAA state tournament with second straight championship

It was No.1 Grand Rapids against No.2 Cloquet in the girl’s basketball section 7AAA finals.

Junior Taryn Hamling and Sophomore Jessika Lofstrom of the Thunderhawks would combine for 36 points leading the charge.

As the Thunderhawks advance to the Class AAA State Tournament with a 51-39 win.

"We knew that they were gong to come out super hard so we had to keep up the intensity the whole time. We wanted this so bad so we came out as hard as we possibly could. We are all just so glad we can all be together, we started from the bottom and created our way up," said Taryn Hamling.

"We were a little nervous but in the second half we knew we had to come out and shake off the nerves, and all the nerves were gone when we came out of that locker room so it was really fun," added Jessika Lofstrom.
