Brandon Weatherz: Wintry mix turns to snow tonight

It’s another morning with the need to be mindful of ice on roads. Light rain, freezing drizzle, and snow is possible in the region today, particularly in northwest Wisconsin and toward the tip of the Arrowhead. A passing cold front will turn precip to snow from the west this evening beginning around the I-35 corridor. Snow will stay under an inch with localized amounts around an inch possible in a narrow swath of east central Minnesota and along the North Shore.
Temperatures take a hit behind the front tonight with lows in single digits and teens. Highs on Friday stay cooler in the mid-teens to low 20s under mostly sunny skies. Temps rebound on Saturday in mid-20s to low 30s. A few snow showers are possible Saturday afternoon and evening with any accumulation staying under an inch.
New Year’s Day will remain mild and mostly cloudy. A potential system would impact the Northland beginning Monday and lasting through Tuesday. Widespread snow accumulation is possible, but there continues to be uncertainty in the system’s track and precipitation type.
