Justin Liles: Winter storm moves through tonight

Our first storm of the New Year looks to bring some heavy snow, gusty winds, and terrible road conditions. It won’t be horrible all over but it will be bad from the Twin Ports-south. Road conditions will likely have blowing and drifting snow through much of east central Minnesota and all of Wisconsin. Heavy snow to go along with winds that could blow as high as 40 mph, will make the Tuesday evening commute and Wednesday morning commute difficult.

Expect the greatest difference in snowfall amounts between the Iron Range and the Twin Ports/Brainerd Lakes areas. Some lake enhanced snowfall expected in Twin Ports and over the WI South Shore, especially in Bayfield and Ashland counties. These areas may see as much as 8-12 inches of snow through Wednesday night. This is a slow moving system and will likely move out by Thursday. The weekend looks better with some sunshine and reasonable temperatures.

Snow. Patchy blowing snow after 7pm. Widespread fog, mainly before 7pm. Steady temperature around 29. Blustery, with a northeast wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.
WEDNESDAY
Snow likely. Patchy blowing snow before 4pm. Patchy fog before noon. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 27. Blustery, with a northeast wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.
THURSDAY
Partly sunny, with a high near 25. North wind 5 to 10 mph.
FRIDAY
Mostly sunny, with a high near 19. West wind around 5 mph.
SATURDAY
Mostly sunny, with a high near 21. North wind around 5 mph becoming northeast in the afternoon.
SUNDAY
Partly sunny, with a high near 22. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
MONDAY
Partly sunny, with a high near 25. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
