McCarthy appears to lose 5th speaker vote

The House Republican leadership drama enters a second day after three failed votes to decide on a speaker Tuesday.

Republican leader Kevin McCarthy is being blocked by a small group of hardliners demanding concessions or alternative candidates.

The House can not conduct any other business — and members can’t be sworn in — until a speaker is chosen.
