Bridget McCutchen is doing something that no one has ever done before; the Ashland native is attempting to set the record for youngest woman to ever circumnavigate the world by motorcycle.
The now 22 year old started her journey back in August, at which point she had never left the country. McCutchen noted that growing up her family didn’t travel a lot. “My family had a farm, so it was like that was what we did is we we farmed and we worked. So figuring out that I could like travel was, was a big thing.”
The idea started with her brother who said was too old at the time to set the record himself. Instead he suggested that she could embark on the journey herself.
WDIO spoke to her during a stop in Bogota, Columbia. McCutchen tells us she’s headed to either Santiago, Chile or Buenos Aires, Argentina. She’s almost certain she’ll land in Ushuaia and ship her bike to Madrid, Spain, starting the second part of her journey. When it’s all said and done, the journey will take about a year.
She leaves us with this message: Adventure is within reach.
“I think a lot of times there are really exciting things that we have in our lives and opportunities that seem really big in our heads. And we tell ourselves that we can’t do them just because we’re like either apprehensive or nervous about what’s going to happen. And I think if we gave it more consideration, we’d be like, ‘No, I could totally do that.'”
