View from the Beargrease Trail with Baihly Warfield
It’s Day Two of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon and after a few years of covering the race, reporter/anchor Baihly Warfield and photojournalist Kyle Aune sure know the best places to catch the mushers along the trail.
Baihly says it was a frigid morning on the trail between the Sawbill and Trail Center checkpoints, and you can certainly hear the “cold” in the crunch of the snow. Here are a few of her Tweets from Monday.
We missed Ryan Anderson and Nick Vigilante, but Keith Aili was third to hit the Two Island road crossing. #Beargrease2023 pic.twitter.com/CxO0nYblQn

Baihly and Kyle caught Keith Aili, bib #3 as came to the Two Island road crossing. He was third, behind Ryan Anderson and Nick Vigilante.
We also caught up with Katherine Langlais, bib #12 followed shortly by Ero Wallin, bib #8. Ero had a quick word and big smile for Baihly.

There is a sign along the trail marking the Two Island Campground roadh crossing. According to Baihly, Mrs. Nietert’s 4th grade class from Iowa designed the poster. Her dad is the volunteer making sure teams cross safely!
And just look at the faces of dogs in Matthew Schmidt’s team, bib #6. They look so happy.
