Police provide update on vehicle incident during Abortion Rights demonstration

The Duluth Police Department released more information Tuesday about a Monday evening vehicle situation at an abortion rights rally in Duluth.

Police said the incident occurred around 6:05 p.m. as demonstrators were marching up 1st Ave E.

According to the department’s statement, “Those marching in the street encountered a vehicle traveling down bound on 1st Ave East.”

The statement continued, “The driver was unaware the path of the march would intersect with them and prevent them from leaving the area,” and “About mid-block, the vehicle is struck with an object believed to be a walking stick that damages the windshield. The person responsible for causing the damage has been identified.”

Police said a 6-month-old child was also in the vehicle and that following the incident the driver quickly pulled over to give a report.

The Duluth Police Department also said protestors did not have permission to demonstrate in the street and did so illegally.

Potential charges of criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct to the subject damaging the windshield are being considered and no citations will be issued to the driver.
