The Hermantown boy’s hockey team will soar into their fourth straight state tournament this week.
It took two close section wins for the defending Class A State champions to pave their way back to St. Paul. They defeated Hibbing/Chisholm 3-2 in the semifinals, then Rock Ridge 3-1 in the finals last Wednesday.
“I think we’ve been in the high pressure situations. That’s good for us to be in and get practice there so we’ll be able to do it at state,” said senior forward Aaron Evjen.
“Graduating a bunch of great guys and losing guys [has been tough]. However this senior group, 10 of them, they all play a huge role. Our captains and on down, they’ve just gut it out and battled through [all season],” added head coach Patrick Andrews on his teams resiliency.
Earning the two seed, Hermantown will face Luverne in the quarterfinals Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Xcel Energy Center.
