Hermantown defenseman Ty Hanson is one step closer to becoming the third straight Hawk to earn a spot in the Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
After a successful outing at the BioSteel Boys Select 17 Player Development Camp, USA Hockey named Hanson to their Hlinka Gretzy Cup Camp roster Monday. From there the final U.S. Under-18 Select Team will be chosen.
The Cup Camp runs from Monday, July 27 to Wednesday, July 29 in Amherst, New York.
A University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) men’s hockey commit, and junior last season, he helped the Hawks to a Class A state title tallying 15 goals and 30 assists in 31 games. Hermantown native Blake Biondi and Zam Plante made the around 20 player rosters in 2019 and 2021 respectively.
The 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup is set to be played July 31 through August 6 in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, with the U.S. competing alongside the Czechia, Finland and Germany in Group B. Canada, Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland will compete in Group A. It’s an annual best-on-best U18 tournament held each August.
