Grand Rapids girls basketball ready for 3rd straight state trip

Tuesday the Grand Rapids girls basketball team tipped off their final home practice before trekking to Minneapolis for their third straight state tournament.
They last two years they fell in the state quarterfinals, but the now 26-2 Thunderhawks enter with big stage experience and a 26 game win streak.
“We’ve worked our whole season and our whole lives for this and to go back-to-back-to-back is amazing and I’m so proud of our team,” senior guard Kyra Giffen said. “We’re just hoping to do what we haven’t done before with our team. I’m confident in us and as long as we stay headstrong and play with our heart we’ll do just fine.”
Grand Rapids, the fifth seed, will first take on fellow twice beaten 27-2 No. 4 Stewartville in the Class AAA quarterfinals.
