The top-seeded Hermantown boys basketball team held off third seeded Duluth Denfeld 70-59 in the Section 7AAA championship game at Duluth East Thursday.
Improving to 22-6 the Hawks have now punched their second straight ticket to the state tournament.
“They have high goals and excited as they are right now, they know that we’re not done yet. They got aspirations of not just getting to state again but be the first team in program history to get a win down at state,” head coach Andy Fenske said.
“It’s been a goal of ours since we were like young, youth basketball to make it to state but now we’re looking to get past state. The job’s not finished but it’s exciting to get to state,” said senior Blake Schmitz.
Denfeld finishes their season 16-13 making their first section final appearance since the 2011-2012 season.
The Minnesota state boy’s high school basketball tournament tips-off Tuesday, March 21 and runs through Saturday, March 25. When available, brackets can be found HERE.
