Head coach Scott Sandelin recaps 2022-23 UMD men’s hockey season

This past University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) men’s hockey season wasn’t one the program has grown accustomed to.
The Bulldogs finished just 16-20-1 falling short of the NCAA National Tournament for the first time since the 2013-2014 season. However head coach Scott Sandelin isn’t pressing the panic button.
“Hopefully they remember that too because it’s not fun, it’s not what we’re accustomed to and sometimes it’s okay to go through that,” he said at a postseason press conference Wednesday. “It’s how you respond so hopefully we’ll comeback a better hockey team next year and put ourselves in a position to be playing this time of year.”
Forwards Isaac Howard and Luke Mylymok have left the program through the transfer portal, but Coach Sandelin said he doesn’t anticipate anymore departures.
He added that three seniors plan to return for their fifth years in forwards Luke Loheit and Quinn Olson, and goalie Matthew Thiessen.
