Woman and child killed in crash on Highway 169

A 35-year-old woman and an 11-year-old girl died in a crash on Thursday.

The Minnesota State Patrol said that the woman was driving a car heading north on Highway 169. Authorities report the car lost control and veered into the southbound lane, and hit a truck.

This was near Tarkman Road in Vermilion Township around 4:30pm.

Investigators have identified the driver of the car as April Pecchia, 35, from Eveleth. The 11-year-old in the car with her has been identified as Lucy Pecchia.

The driver of the truck was brought to the hospital in Virginia with injuries that were not life-threatening.
