He shattered the Hibbing High School boy’s basketball all-time scoring record by nearly 800 points, finishing his career with 2,432, and now Ayden McDonald is returning to the Northland.
After originally tipping off college at Augustana University this fall the 2022 Bluejacket grad de-committed. Then last week he announced he’s continuing his career with the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) men’s basketball team.
“When I originally came home in the fall and entered the transfer portal Coach [Justin] Wieck reached out and I appreciated that. He knew that I was going to be coaching at [Duluth] East, and taking classes, and coaching with Rhett [McDonald], so that’s kind of how that connection started.”
McDonald will join fellow Northlanders Cole Lahti from Northwestern, and current Bulldogs, Duluth East alums, Mattie Thompson and Noah Paulson at UMD.
