Opening the 2020-2021 season the Duluth Marshall girls hockey team skated to a 6-1 start. On Tuesday night they one-upped that defeating North Shore 4-1 to improve to 7-1 overall on the season.

A key weapon to their success has been their depth on the bench, with their top four scorers a freshman (Nina Thorson, 13 points), sophomore (Isla Lindaman, 24 points), junior (Meredith Boettcher, 16 points), and senior (Annika Lindgren, 27 points).

"As a small school we’ve always had limited numbers," Boettcher, a defenseman, explained. "We have to pull from our middle school and just have people all over age-wise up and down the lineup, but it really works out for us because it builds our program for the future."

Junior forward Danica Mark added, "I think it gives us a lot of confidence because we know our program isn’t going to burn out after this year. It gives us kind of an edge over other teams because we’re Marshall and we’re here to stay."

The Hilltoppers now sit in the top ten in the state as the seventh ranked Class A team. Off for the holidays they’re back in action next Wednesday, Dec. 29th hosting Chisago Lakes at 3pm.
