Forest roads 426 and 227 (Rocky Run Road) temporarily closed
RHINELANDER, Wis., May 25, 2023 – Forest roads 426 and 227 (Rocky Run Road) are temporarily closed from flooding in the Town of Delta area. The Forest roads 426 and 227 are in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest (CNNF).
Forest Road 426 is closed temporarily by the USDA Forest Service, due to a culvert blowout from flooding. Road access, east of the culvert is not accessible at the moment. However, new culvert is on the way to replace the existing culvert. Forest Road 426 will be re-opened as soon as the possible with the new culvert replacement.
The Town of Delta also temporarily closed Forest Road 227, Rocky Run Road. However, this road was closed from flooding and is between Delta-Drummond Road to Forest Road 228, West Delta Road. The USDA Forest Service officials are urging people to plan ahead to navigate via different routes.
“These emergency road closures are to help to ensure safe travel in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest,” said USDA Forest Service Technical Services Staff Officer Mark Beuning. “Please refrain from driving on Forest Road 227 to reduce the risk of your vehicle getting stuck in the sand. Allow extra time and bring a map with you, even if you have GPS, to help navigate your route during the time when these roads are closed.”
