Lilac Lovefest blooming this June

Lilac Lovefest, the celebration of the lilac season in the Twin Ports, will bloom again this June.

Organizer Linda Nervick says it’s a wonderful time of year. She started Lilac Lovefest after realizing how long the lilacs bloom here in the Twin Ports versus other areas.

“I realized we have the longest lilac season in the world here in the Twin Ports because of our giant cold lake,” she said.

The first lilac was spotted on the Hillside in Duluth this year.

This year, events include a Din & Gin Train on the North Shore Scenic Railroad, lilac yoga in the Fitger’s Courtyard, and a lilac art exhibit at Lizzards Duluth.

There will also be lilac-inspired or flavored treats:

• Lilac lattes and macarons at Duluth’s Best Bread
• Lilac ice cream at Love Creamery
• Lilac cocktail at Vikre Distillery

There are also coloring, carving, and photography contests.
