South Ridge baseball gears up for fifth straight state appearance

After a 6-4 loss to Cherry earlier in the week, the South Ridge baseball team needed two wins in a row to be crowned Section 7A champions.

They got the job done in come from behind fashion in the second game, in extra innings, with a walk off RBI from Carter Anderson.

Sending the Panthers to their fifth straight state appearance.

“Coming from a small school in the middle of nowhere. It’s great to be able to make it down to a state where a lot of those other teams are down in the cities. I mean, you don’t hear much about teams up in north Minnesota,” said senior outfielder Carter Anderson.

“We had to do it the hard way. We had to come back and beat Cherry twice on that Thursday. That makes it a little more exciting that day. We’ve got a good group senior leaders this year that have been pushing us through all year. We’ve battled through some injuries and battled through some tough losses. These guys have kept their head up, just like we did this week,” added head coach Aaron Weber.

In the Class A state bracket, South Ridge picked up the No.1 spot.

They take on Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Tuesday at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud, with first pitch at 3:30 p.m.
