Nick Swaney re-signs with Wild, UMD alums to hit free agent market
NHL free agency starts Saturday, July 1 and 11 University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) men’s hockey alums will be up for grabs.
Nine are unrestricted free agents, meaning players can sign anywhere. They are Karson Kuhlman (Winnipeg), Alex Stalock (Chicago), Carson Soucy (Seattle), Andy Welinski (Rockford), Hunter Shepard (Hershey), Riley Tufte (Dallas), Jackson Cates (Philadelphia), Nick Wolff (Providence), and Justin Richards (Columbus).
Two are restricted free agents, meaning their current team can match other offers. They are Winnipeg’s Dylan Samberg and Philadelphia’s Noah Cates.
Dominic Toninato (Winnipeg), Scott Perunovich (St. Louis), and Joey Anderson (Chicago) already re-signed NHL deals.
Friday, prior to the deadline, the Minnesota Wild re-signed forward Nick Swaney to a one-year, two-way contract worth an initial $775,000. Skating with their AHL affiliate the Iowa Wild last season the 25-year-old recorded 18 goals and 12 assists for 30 points. He played one game for the Wild making his NHL debut April 13 at Nashville.
