Campgrounds are close to capacity for celebrating the 4th of July

Many folks are preparing for Independence Day either with getting fireworks, grilling food, or by camping. Although many campgrounds are close tot capacity throughout the Northland for the 4th of July.

Darrell Eckenberg, the Manager of Buffalo Valley Campground said that nearly every weekend this summer is booked. “We’re busy like this every year I get 152 sites here. 25, ten sites. They’re all full. And a lot of people are regulars that come here all the time,” Eckenberg said. “They book a year in advance. They’ll start booking in February. So it fills up fast.”

The Buffalo Valley Campground also had an early 4th of July celebration on Saturday July 1st. “We had our band last night up on the stage and up on the patio,” Eckenberg said.

Also Eckenberg said the reason why so many campgrounds are close to capacity, is because of the natural sights in the Northland. “We got the full bar, full restaurant, the Munger State trail goes through us here for biking and hiking,” Eckenberg said. “We’re 10 minutes from downtown Duluth, Canal Park, and 62 miles from Gooseberry Falls. So we’re we’re kind of right in the middle of everywhere they want to go.”

Although another busy weekend for Buffalo Valley will be July 14th-15th, because of the Duluth Air Show and the DECC’s show dog competition.
