Fireworks sales continue to skyrocket amidst drought conditions

Many Minnesota and Wisconsin DNR officials have expressed concerns over igniting fireworks during the severe drought conditions. With the possible chance of wildfires occurring, from the flames, how has it impacted the sales of fireworks. For small businesses like Larsen’s in Superior, fireworks sales continue to soar.

Emma Larsen, the daughter of the family owned business, said that fireworks sales continue to do incredibly well. “We sell year round, but obviously, as the forth comes up, the stock is much larger,” Larsen said. “But we always have things on hand year round. Sparklers, smoke bombs, snaps kind of the basic stuff.”

Minnesota Counties like Lake, St. Louis, Cook and Carlton have restrictions on fireworks. However, in Wisconsin there are not as many restrictions in place, depending on the fireworks. “We’ve also been, like, in contact with the DNR to just make sure everyone stands safe. It’s safe to be lighting them in town in the greater area,” Larsen said. “Just come over to Wisconsin, find a place, have fun.”

The Larsen family have been selling fireworks for over a decade, and they have some helpful tips for staying safe. “For sparklers my tip would be get the bigger ones. I know they look scarier because they are bigger, but most of the time the handles on them are way longer,” Larsen said. “There are also punks, which burn very slow. So for lighting different things, keep the little fingers away from the flames and being safe.”

The Larsen family also now own Three Finger Fireworks in South Range Wisconsin. They are offering an even larger selection of fireworks at a 10% discount.
