Lake Superior Zoo is celebrating a century

The Lake Superior Zoo is celebrating its 100th Birthday. It’s the 19th oldest zoo in the United States, and with that comes a lot of History.
Haley Hedstrom, the Executive Director, tells us her favorite bit of history is Mr. Magoo the Mongoose. She explains, “He has a bit of cult following online.”
“He was a stowaway on a ship from India.” As an invasive species, he would’ve been sentenced to death but was pardon by President John F. Kennedy.

The 100 years all culminates at this year’s Zoo La Palooza. It’s a centennial Birthday Party.
The free event is Friday, July 21 from 6 – 9 p.m.. Those with a paid V.I.P admission can get early admission at 5 p.m. and get early access to parking, alongside a behind the scenes tour and animal feeding experiences.
Also expect a food trucks, music of Babie Eyes, free cake, a dunk tank, and surprise guests.
The 100 years all culminates at this year's Zoo La Palooza.
There’s a fundraising aspect to the day, people can buy raffle tickets to win certificates to Mr. D.’s, Skin Deep Tattoo in Superior, and the zoo. Plus, a patio set and a grill.
You can also support the zoo by buying V.I.P. wristbands and donate at the dunk tank.
