Overdue fisherman recovered from Leech Lake
According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, authorities received a report of an overdue fisherman at 5:49 p.m. on Monday, July 10. The report said a 71-year-old man from Walker, Minnesota had been fishing on Leech Lake and did not return home.
Deputies began searching Leech Lake by land, boat and air. The fisherman’s boat was located on the east shore of Sucker Bay around 8:18 p.m. A search of the area was conducted, but the fisherman was not located.
Early on Tuesday morning, authorities and first responders continued to search for the missing fisherman, and at 6:32 p.m., found the man’s body in Leech Lake in the area of Sucker Bay. An autopsy is scheduled with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Assisting with the search and recovery was the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office, and the Lakes Area Dive Team.
