Fatal ATV crash reported in Barnum Township

A man driving an ATV northbound near the 3500 block of Pine Road in Barnum Township lost his life when the vehicle left the road and struck a tree.
According to the police report, the man was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and officials state it is not clear what caused the ATV to leave the road.
The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an ATV crash at 7:52 P.M. Wednesday night when a motorist came upon the crash and dialed 911.
Carlton County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the call, alongside members of the Barnum Fire Department, Blackhoof Fire Department and Essentia Moose Lake EMS.
The Moose Lake Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol and the Midwest Medical Examiner’s office also assisted the scene.
The victim’s name is not being released at this time pending the notification of family members.
The crash also remains under investigation.
