In just 10 days the reinvented St. Mary’s Medical Center treats its first patient. Today, at an unveiling ceremony, Gov. Tim Walz, CEO Dr. David Herman and other prominent community leaders gave words of thanks and admiration.

Governor Tim Walz says, “it started out as someone’s vision. It started out as what what could happen and all of that is grounded in how do we improve the lives of people. How do we make sure that people across this state have access to the best quality health care, a place where they know they can deliver a child up on that beautiful floor and look out over Lake Superior or a place when tragedy strikes, that this would be where they could come.”

Also, Mayor Emily Larson noted this is an indication that economically speaking, Duluth is where it should be. “This is a game changer for our economy.”

All of the glass you see was manufactured in Owatonna, Minnesota. There was also a recorded 300-million hours of labor put into building the facility says Walz.

CEO Dr. David Herman also gave some kind words. He vows to protect and work with the indigenous people who came before us. “This land holds great historical spirit, full and personal significance for its original stewards. We seek to bring strong and respectful relationships with the native people and communities we are privileged to serve today and for generations to come.”

There will be an open house tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. if you are curious about the $900-million investment.
