Brandon Weatherz: Cooler and quieter weekend ahead

After a hot and stormy Thursday, the Northland will get a chance to recover with a welcomed stretch of quieter and more comfortable weather. A stray shower or thunderstorm may pop up in Wisconsin today, and a line of showers and thunderstorms may sweep north central Minnesota and the Arrowhead from the west in the afternoon and evening, falling apart before reaching the Twin Ports thanks to a lake breeze. No storms are expected to be severe, and the rest of the weekend into the start of next week will be rather dry and generally sunny.
Temps and dew points take a hit today behind the cold front with highs ranging from mid-70s to mid-80s. Lakeside areas stay in upper 60s due to an east wind around 10-15 mph. The drier air will allow for a pleasant night to leave a window open with lows in the 50s under partly cloudy skies. Saturday will cooperate beautifully with outdoor plans with highs in low to upper 70s and more sun than clouds. Saturday night is cooler yet with mid-40s to mid-50s. Sunday features more sunshine with mid and upper 70s.
