August 1st, 2023, served as National Night Out. The night allows cities across the country to host events to help strengthen the bond between local law enforcement and first responders and the communities they serve. Cloquet hosted several celebrations in Veterans Park on Monday evening so locals could also partake in the national event. This was the first time since 2019 that the events were held due to the pandemic. Prior to Covid-19, the Cloquet Police Department would hold the event annually. This year, the events included free food and drinks, bounce houses, face painting and more. Local businesses were also given the opportunity to set up tables and advertise to visiting community members. Both the Cloquet Police and Fire departments were in attendance and were able to mingle with families and play games with the kids.
Several other cities around the Northland are hosting National Nights Out and will have events throughout the rest of the week. The cities include Duluth, Esko, Cloquet and more.
