How the distribution of the Minnesota tax rebate checks works

Tax rebate checks will start going out to Minnesota taxpayers as early as this week, according to Gov. Tim Walz.

The Governor announced the payments of up to $1,300 per household — $260 for individual filers or $520 for married couples, along with another $260 apiece for up to three dependents.

They’ll be distributed over direct deposit or sent in the mail for people who filed their taxes in the previous years.

If the original bank account was closed or the Minnesota Revenue Department deemed the account unsafe, then they will default to sending the check in the mail.

At Wednesday’s press conference, the Commissioner of the Minnesota Revenue Department said if you haven’t gotten your rebate check by mid September you should call the Minnesota Department of Revenue.
