Rachel Betterley has had a pretty good summer.
The wife and mom of two just won the Mrs. Petite USA competition in Milwaukee, and will compete for the Miss Universal Petite in 2024.
“It’s been a whirlwind,” she told us. “But I’m really excited.”
She’s also launched a campaign called Sketchbooks for Kids. She collects art supplies, and sends the kits out to schools.
“I want to help some creative kiddos feel like they’re appreciated and their talents matter, despite whatever adversity they’re going through. I’ve had a lot of trauma as a child myself, and my sketchbook was so important to me. I know that there’s a kid out there who was feeling the same way,” she told us.
She’s sent out 500 now, and hopes to reach 2000. The network of other pageant contestants also helps get the word out.
Betterley is an art teacher at North Woods School in Cook.
