Superior Fire responds to fuel oil release at Cenovus Superior Refinery
Just minutes before 1:00 p.m. Thursday, the Superior Fire Department responded to a release of heavy fuel oil in a process unit and the Cenovus Superior Refinery.
Cenovus says an incident caused them to shutdown equipment and vent to the atmosphere.
Viewers reached out to WDIO about smoke in the sky near the refinery, the company says there was no injuries or fire.
Non-essential personnel was removed from the site as a precaution.
Emergency staff are using water fog streams and steam to dissipate vapors while they reduce pressure in the system.
Superior Fire Department are on the scene on stand by and monitoring air quality. So far no vapors have been detected.
The fire department says there’s no danger to the public.
