The Duluth Salvation Army received a $200,000 gift from the estate of late Karen Hallback. Leaders say it came at a time when the organization needed it most.
The Duluth woman passed away suddenly in November of 2022.
He family says this donation represent how she lived her life. Her Brother Jeff Hallback spoke at Thursday’s check presentation, “Karen, in her personal and professional life, cared deeply about injustice and doing something about it in the world.
“We have been at our wit’s end trying to balance a budget that had a huge deficit, and then Jeff (her brother) called. Our housing program’s budget was in need of $130,000 to balance for the fiscal year 2023-2024, and this gift was such a blessing… a big ray of hope when we couldn’t see any way to make up the difference” said Cyndi Lewis, Director of Development.
Karen was a Cloquet High School grad and UMD Alumni.
