September is “I Stand with Kids Month,” and three local organizations teamed up to provide a Calendar of Caring to go along with it.
“Lots of community organizations coming together to suggest positive activities, one per day in September for I Stand with Kids Month to give people ideas of as a positive, caring adult for a child some activities that they can do with a child or to support children,” Mentor North Executive Director Jill Hinners said.
First Witness, the Child Abuse Prevention Coalition, and Duluth Thrives came up with the Calendar of Caring. It’s a 30-day challenge for adults to connect with the kids in their lives.
I Stand with Kids Month is all about making sure kids who grow up in the Twin Ports community have positive experiences that set them up for success at school and in life.
“I love the motto, every child is only one caring adult away from success,” Patty Salo Downs, Chair of Duluth Thrives, said. “And so when you dial into that, the littlest acts and actions that we make as adults in children’s lives can make such a huge difference. It can be a significant gift to a child.”
