One of the newest additions to the Great Lakes Aquarium is the school of Look Downs. They live alongside the stingrays and sharks in the large ocean tank of the Shipwrecks Alive exhibit.
The Look Downs are from the Atlantic Ocean all the way from Canada to South America. They’re found in shallower sandy bottom habitats.
Miranda Rinne, the Curator of Aquatics, explains, “Fish school for various reasons. For a lot of fish, it helps them to evade predators because predators might see them as a larger being, or they might be confused like in the case with these Look Downs.”
