Mama T’s Smokin’ Eats has made a splash during its first year in business. Tanya “Mama T” Lowney is the brains behind a menu that rotates every week.
This week, she featured Oktoberfest dishes like a Bratsconnie burger, Bavarian pretzels, and pastrami Reuben egg rolls.
“I love flavors. I can taste different flavors and then I can think about them in my mind and come up with stuff,” she said.
She got her love of her cooking from her two grandmothers, one of whom was Jewish, the other Swedish.
“I kind of took some of both of those recipes and made some of my own traditions,” Lowney said.
She wants the restaurant to have a fun vibe that’s also family-friendly.
“I want you to be able to bring your families in, I want you to bring big groups of friends in, everybody have a good time,” she said. “I have the best craft beers ever. I have two of my own. And then we switch the taps up every single week, so there’s always something new.”
She likes to make sure there is beer on tap and wine on the shelf that pairs well with her weekly rotating menu. There is also a standard menu customers can count on.
And Mama T loves to host both Vikings and Packers fans for football games. She makes a Viking burger and Packer burger, but it’s ordered blind and you don’t find out what’s on either one until it’s set in front of you. She also offers Vikings and Packers shots for each touchdown either team scores.
