How the UAW strike could impact buyers in the Northland

Around 13,000 United Auto Workers (UAW) are officially on strike.
A fair contract with better benefits and wages is what the workers are seeking. They are striking against General Motors, Ford and Stellantis.
Locally, we wanted to see how this could affect the auto industry. We spoke to owner of Kari Toyota, Chris Kari who says the problem could stem deep.
“It’s all about supply and demand. If there are strikes, there will inevitably be shortages. We learned this over the last few years. We’re finally starting to see those supply and demand chains start to relax, but with strikes it could cause more issues, said Kari.”
Though Toyota is not apart of the strike he says these people do not want to be on strike, “they want to make cars, but without fair wages and benefits they can’t do that.” Kari says he does feel for both sides.
The UAW is officially on strike. There are currently 13,000 people out of the shop to fight for fair wages and benefits. The three major companies, Ford, General Motors and Stellantis are where those striking are employed.
He also mentions how this could cause prices to spike, like we have seen in the past. “In general this could drive car prices, which none of us want to see. We want to see these continue to kind of progress down so they’re more affordable to the average person.”
