Boat accident with injuries on Lake Vermilion
On Saturday night at 9:03 pm, the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a boat accident on Rainbow Island, located in Daisy Bay on Lake Vermilion.
Members of the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office Rescue Squad and the Tower Fire Department arrived at the scene and discovered a pontoon boat that had struck the island.
1st Responders located a female passenger that had been thrown from the boat onto the island. They provided medical assistance until she could be transported to shore. Tower Ambulance transported the passenger to the Virginia Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the boat was also transported to shore by 1st Responders and then transported by ambulance to the Virginia Hospital as a precaution.
Names of both parties are being withheld pending family notification and the ongoing investigation. Both parties were from the Twin Cities metro area and were visiting the area on vacation.
According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, it is believed that the nighttime darkness, boat speed and alcohol contributed to the accident.
The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Tower Fire Department, Tower Ambulance service, the Greenwood Fire Department, the Virginia Fire Department and the St. Louis County Rescue Squad.
