Brandon Weatherz: Summery start to the week

Temperatures rise near records to start the week and fall near ten degrees below average by the end of it. Fog is an issue locally this morning, but it finally improves today as southwest winds drive drier air into the region and spread yesterday’s warmth to the Twin Ports. Cooler conditions will focus immediately along the shoreline of the North Shore. Highs elsewhere reach low to mid-80s under mostly sunny skies. Tonight will be clear with lows staying near records in upper 50s to mid-60s.
Summery weather continues for one final day on Tuesday with highs in low 80s. A breezy south wind will once again allow us to feel the warmth in Canal Park and direct lake air along the North Shore. Cloud cover increases from the west through the day ahead of scattered showers and thunderstorms arriving Tuesday evening and overnight.
Wednesday features highs ranging from near 60 to near 70 and a few lingering showers. The cooling trend continues to end the week with widespread 50s Thursday and mid-40s to near 50 for highs by Friday. For perspective, Duluth hasn’t had a low temperature fall below 50 since September 17th, so the chill will be a big change from what we’ve had lately. Scattered showers are possible both Thursday and Friday. We dry out for the weekend with rain chances limited to the South Shore on Saturday. Saturday is similarly cool to Friday, then we trend a touch warmer Sunday with low 60s back in the warm spots.
