It’s likely many of us in the Northland are not incredibly excited about winter coming, but do you know who is? The 300-plus people planning to ride the 25th anniversary ride of the Black Woods Blizzard tour for ALS.

This year’s ride filled up with more than 300 riders within just 5 days of registration opening up. One of the hundred volunteers that help make the annual fundraiser successful is David Kolquist. He said something else special about this 25th annual ride is that two men that rode snowmobiles around Lake Superior back in 1999, at the tour’s inception, are doing it again this year.

“Those guys are coming back and they’re riding around Lake Superior again 25 years later,” Kolquist said. “So we got a lot of things going that we are excited about it.”

Each year, the Black Woods Blizzard tour brings people together in the fight against Lou Gehrig’s disease. This year’s goal is to raise $2-million dollars to help find treatments and ultimately, a cure for ALS.

The three-day Black Woods Blizzard tour snowmobile ride is in February and starts and ends at Black Bear casino resort in Carlton.

Former Minnesota Twins alumni Terry Steinbach, Kent Hrbek, and Ron Gardenhire will be among the over 300 snowmobilers who will once again participate in the ride.
