Today was a big day for East Select Soccer, as the program headed out for some pizza and an open scrimmage in celebration of their 25th anniversary.

ESS has been a huge part of my life as long as I can remember, I played for ten years under ESS. So today we got all the players, tons of coaches out here playing some games, eating some pizza and cake and just having a great time celebrating, said first year coach Erin Christensen.

It’s been a great ride 25 years fly by, when I was with the group that was starting I didn’t have kids. SO I was doing it as a passion that I really loved coaching and working with kids. That is one of the things we bring to the table giving these kids an opportunity to learn from someone else besides us," said founder Shawn Roed.

The program began in 1997 with the goal to provide a positive soccer experience for players and families in the Duluth community.

They also host the areas largest soccer tournament, the Lake Superior Open every summer, with over 100 teams competing this year.
