Timberwolves & Lynx camp tips off stop in Proctor

The Timberwolves and Lynx 2021 Basketball Academy summer camp and clinic pulled into the Rails’ gym at Proctor High School on Monday.

The four day traveling camp, also put on in part by Starks academy, serves as a way to grow the sport of basketball throughout the state of Minnesota.

"The community involvement piece with the Lynx and the Timberwolves is to get our fans [as] far reaching as we can," explained academy director Tylor Coley. "Way up here, all the way to the far west of the state, to the far south of the state, just bring kids out in droves to be a part of our camp."

"You just can’t beat the Timberwolves and the Lynx. To have a regional professional sports team come here, show their love all the way up in the Northland, but listen: we’re an area and a region that needs to be respected as well," said Dyami Starks, founder and director of Starks Academy.

Kids ages 7-11 will hit the hardwood the first two days of the clinic, on Monday and Tuesday. While Wednesday and Thursday will be geared towards kids ages 12-14.

The camp is focused on fostering a healthy lifestyle, while developing individual skills, teamwork and leadership.

"You get to learn a bunch of things about basketball, and there’s a bunch of coaches here to help you," said camper Chayton.

Coley’s son, third grader Khaysen, chimed in saying that his, "favorite part about this place is that there’s so much fun around here. Seriously everything is going great."

The camp concludes in Proctor on Thursday.
