Cloquet Police warning of recent burglary, assault

Cloquet Police are telling residents to keep their homes and vehicles secured, after a burglary incident early Tuesday morning.

Just after 4:30am, CPD responded to a home on Boulder Drive on the report of a burglary of an occupied dwelling. The residents told police they awoke to an intruder that had broke into the home, physically assaulting one of them. As another person inside the home intervened, the alleged assailant fled on foot.

With the assistance of neighboring agencies and the Minnesota State Patrol, Cloquet officers searched the area, but were unsuccessful in locating the suspect.

Police are describing the burglar/assailant as a white male, approximately 6’2", slender build, beard, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and black pants. The individual appeared unkempt and dirty. The suspect is not known to the victim.

Police do not know if this was a targeted or random incident or if the suspected mistargeted the home or victims.

CPD says they are continuing extra patrol presence in some communities right now. Residents are advised to keep homes and vehicles locked and secured, and to call 911 if they see anyone or anything suspicious in their neighborhoods.

This incident is an open and active investigation as investigators are following leads.
