Northern Minnesota’s oldest road race is celebrating 50 years! For those keeping track, that’s older than Grandma’s Marathon.

The 50th Annual Park Point 5-Miler will be happening next week, July 15. Racers will recall that last year’s event was the first race the Grandma’s organization was able to put together in-person, post-pandemic.

Racing in waves last year, that test run paved the way for bigger events, like Grandma’s Marathon in June. And organizers say this year’s 5-Miler will look even more normal.

"We’re going to use a traditional mass start. We’re going to use a bit more space in the start area than normal so that people can keep that extra space if they want to, but it’s one gun time," says Zach Schneider, Grandma’s Marketing and Public Relations Director.

"Everyone is going to start at the same time, and I think with the smaller events and a Grandma’s Marathon size event, the one thing that’s been missing over this last year is that sense of community. Being able to be together at the start line, finish as a group so to speak."

Registration is still open, with total capacity capped at 900 participants.

Because it’s the 50th celebration, there will be a post-race party! Participants will be given a free drink ticket, with live music at the Park Point Beach House starting at 7:00 p.m.
