Brandon Weatherz: More of the same to end the week

We’ll see more of the same to end the week with stubborn cloud cover and occasional rain. We find ourselves on the backside of a low pressure system today that gradually moves east across the U.P., but this system will still produce scattered light rain showers across northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. Rain chances are most widespread in the morning, then they move eastward along the South Shore this evening. Accumulation today will be minimal for most with 0.25” or found locally in Lake and Cook Co. and east of the Bayfield Peninsula. Highs range from low to upper 50s.
Tonight is partly to mostly cloudy with temps falling into mid-30s to low 40s, then tomorrow highs range from low 50s near Grand Marais and Ironwood to mid-50s in the Twin Ports to mid-60s for Brainerd. A second low pressure system will swing across the region from northwest to southeast bringing scattered showers arriving Friday afternoon and tapering off Saturday morning. Rainfall rates may be heavier at times with this round, particularly across the Arrowhead and into the South Shore where localized accumulation surpassing 0.5” will be possible.
Temps take a hit behind this system with Saturday’s highs ranging from mid-40s east to mid-50s west. Widespread 30s are expected Saturday night. Sunday then features 50s for most and a mix of clouds and sun. We’ll stay generally dry Sunday and Monday, then a more active weather pattern will provide several opportunities for precipitation next week.
