Director Sean’s Crushed Red Peppers
WDIO's Director Sean Franzen grows red peppers.
WDIO Director Sean Franzen had too many cayenne peppers and decided to make red pepper flakes.
- Cut off the stems
- Dry in oven at less than 175 degrees for approximately 2-6 hours
- The goal is to remove all the water but not cook the peppers
- Should become a deep dark red but not burnt or brown
- Once they’re dried up, crush them
Sean recommends harvesting cayenne peppers as they turn from green to red. The longer you leave them on, the redder and spicier they become.
