A passing system brings a wet and breezy stretch today into tomorrow, then introduces much colder air to the region that will stick around over the weekend and through Halloween. Plan for costumes to work with winter coats, hats, and gloves!

A rain jacket or umbrella is needed heading out the door this morning. The wettest stretch is the start of the day, but scattered showers linger in the region this afternoon and evening. Steady rain returns overnight into Friday morning, then we finally dry out. We look north of the Iron Range for snow to mix in Thursday night and Friday morning before we dry out. Koochiching County may pick up light accumulation on grassy surfaces.

Temperatures start off today ranging from upper 30s north to mid-40s to near 50 in the Twin Ports and south. It’s another day with rather steady temperatures, keeping highs around 40 for International Falls, upper 40s in the Twin Ports, and low 50s by Hayward. Lows tonight will be in 30s and 40s as cool air begins to take over from the northwest. Duluth can enjoy one more morning bus stop in the 40s before cold air takes over.

Friday’s highs then will be a few degrees above morning lows ranging from mid-30s to near 50 with mid-40s in the Twin Ports. Widespread temps fall in the 20s Friday night and highs stay in the 30s on Saturday. Similarly cool conditions repeat Sunday through Tuesday with each morning featuring wind chills as low as single digits for northern communities.
