No. 8 UMD women’s hockey rallies past Bemidji for third straight win
On Friday the eighth ranked University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s hockey team rallied to defeat Bemidji State University (BSU) 2-1 in Bemidji.
The Bulldogs trailed 1-0 just three minutes into the game. That would remain the score into the third period when Clara Van Wieren scored the equalizer for UMD. Then three minutes later, with just over two minutes left in regulation, former BSU Beaver herself Reece Hunt scored the game-winning goal for the Bulldogs.
“We talked a lot as a team about it being extra emotional, with Reece and Emma [Sobieck] being here, extra emotional for the Bemidji locker room. And to expect exactly what we got. Nice to move some things around in the third period and create a little bit of magic, a little bit of energy for our team,” UMD head coach Maura Crowell said post-game.
UMD earns their third straight win as they improve to 5-2 on the season. They’ll hunt for the WCHA sweep in their series finale with Bemidji (0-8-1) Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Sanford Center.
