Virginia’s Cal Warwas to run for Minnesota House in District 07B
Third-generation miner and 27-year United Steelworkers union member Cal Warwas has announced that he will run for the Minnesota House in District 07B. This district includes the cities of Chisholm, Virginia, Mountain Iron, Eveleth, Aurora, Gilbert, Biwabik and 33 townships.
Warwas is currently serving his second term as a Supervisor for Clinton Township and is a director for the Range Association of Municipalities and Schools Board. He’s also known to be an active member in the St. Louis County Association of Townships and the Minnesota Association of Townships.
Warwas also represents the St. Louis County Association of Townships to the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission.
“As a lifelong Iron Ranger, I have a passion for seeing our people get opportunities to stay here and raise their families, and giving our kids hope for the future and a home on the Range. I’m deeply concerned about the hard-left turn our state politics have taken, leaving most rural Minnesotans without a voice, especially as it pertains to skyrocketing energy costs, parental and Second Amendment rights, and the increase of taxes and fees everywhere you look. In the 2023 legislative session, the DFL Trifecta, led by Twin Cities legislators, has advanced an agenda that is way out-of-step with Range values and priorities”, Warwas said.
If elected, Warwas says that mining will be a top priority. “I’ve spent years now helping to forward the ideals of organizations like Fight For Mining Minnesota and Better In Our Back Yard (BIOBY) as a citizen pro-mining activist, heightening awareness about responsible mining opportunities in Minnesota, which is the backbone of our entire economy in District 7B.” Warwas added “I will work diligently at the Capitol for all current and new mining projects on the Range. Without these, I believe our kids will have to look far from home for a sustainable living; we can, and we must, do better for them.”
Warwas was born in Virginia, and has lived on the Range his entire life. He and his wife, Maria, live in Clinton Township.
