UMD women’s hockey hunts for 3rd straight sweep hosting St. Thomas
The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s hockey team is home all weekend for their fourth straight WCHA conference series.
They’re on a tear riding a four game win streak following back-to-back sweeps of Minnesota State Universty, Mankato and Bemidji State University.
Up next is St. thomas University, now in their third season in Division I. The Bulldogs have watched them grow into their skates and are excited for the Tommies’ heightened level of competition.
“I think it’s super exciting and it’s good for our league to continue to grow like that. It’s exciting for us to get to play a top end team every single week,” captain Mannon McMahon said.
“I think they’re a motivated, young, hungry team that’s getting over the hump, and it’s not going to take them very long as a program. I’m not from Minnesota, but I heard from a lot of people here that it’s not going to take them very long to start to be competitive. And I think they’ve arrived,” UMD head coach Maura Crowell said.
UMD hosts St. Thomas Friday at 6 p.m. at AMSOIL Arena. They will hold a moment of silence prior to puck drop for Adam Johnson, as well as sport AJ stickers.
Game two against the Tommies is Saturday at 3 p.m. in Duluth.
